Alpe di Siusi hotels split into two completely different trips, and almost nobody tells you that before you book.
Sleep on the plateau and you get the mornings and the evenings to yourself. The day visitors have gone down on the last cable car, the light turns gold across 56 km² (22 square miles) of empty meadow, and you can be on a trail before anyone else arrives. Sleep in the valley villages and you get more choice, better value and somewhere to eat that isn’t your own hotel. Both are good. They’re just not the same trip.
Here are the 10 best hotels in Alpe di Siusi, what each one is actually for, and which ones take dogs.
TL;DR
The best Alpe di Siusi hotels are COMO Alpina Dolomites for luxury on the plateau, ADLER Alpe for the spa, Seiser Alm Urthaler if you’re bringing a dog, Hotel Schmung for a family-run base ten minutes from the trailheads, and Hotel Gstatsch for families on a budget.
Plateau or valley?
Staying up at Compaccio or Saltria buys you empty trails at either end of the day, plus a road permit that gets around the daily 9:00 am to 5:00 pm closure. Staying down in Siusi, Castelrotto, Fiè or Ortisei buys you choice, restaurants and a lower bill.
Book early
There are only a few dozen hotels on the plateau itself, and the good ones go months ahead for July, August and the ski season.

Where to Stay in Alpe di Siusi: Browse by Village
If you already know roughly where you want to be, start here. Each of these searches covers one base, and they’re ordered the way most people choose: plateau first, then down the hill.
Compaccio, on the plateau
The arrival point at the top of the cable car, about 1,850 m (6,070 ft), and where most of the plateau’s hotels are. Trails leave from the door and the day visitors leave at five.
Good for: early starts, sunsets, road access permits, ski-to-door in winter
Saltria, the quiet end
The far side of the plateau, under the Sassolungo, around 1,900 m (6,230 ft). Fewer hotels, fewer people, and the Florian lift on the doorstep.
Good for: quiet, Sciliar views, skiing, anyone who found Compaccio busy
Siusi (Seis am Schlern)
The village at the bottom of the cable car, so you’re 15 minutes from the plateau without paying plateau rates. Bus 170 from Bolzano stops here.
Good for: value, car-free arrivals, a village to come back to
Castelrotto (Kastelruth)
The prettiest of the valley villages, with a painted bell tower and a square that still works as a square. Cherry blossoms through it in early May.
Good for: restaurants, families, a base for more than Alpe di Siusi
Ortisei, Val Gardena
The other way up: the Mont Sëuc gondola lifts you to the northern edge of the plateau in about 10 minutes. The biggest town of the lot, and the best for an evening out.
Good for: shops and restaurants, Val Gardena hiking, families who want options

The Best Hotels on Alpe di Siusi Itself
Nine of the ten are up here, which tells you something: a plateau this size has surprisingly few beds on it, and the protection order means that isn’t going to change.
COMO Alpina Dolomites in Compaccio
The glass front is the giveaway. Where everything else up here is wood and shingle, the Alpina is a long pane of glass facing the Sciliar, and the point of it becomes obvious about four seconds after you walk in.
Two pools, one of them outdoors with the meadow running away underneath it. A full spa. Ski-to-door in winter. It’s a member of Leading Hotels of the World, and recent guests rate the location 9.8, which on a plateau where every hotel has a view is a real distinction.
It’s the most expensive bed on Alpe di Siusi and it isn’t pretending otherwise. If you want one night on this plateau to be the night you remember, this is the Alpe di Siusi hotel to book.

ADLER Alpe in Compaccio
Guests rate ADLER Alpe’s location a flat 10.0. Not 9.8. Ten.
You get an infinity pool that appears to spill onto the meadow, an open-air bath, sauna, hot tub, steam room, a gym and yoga classes, all in a 5-star with ski-to-door access. The restaurant runs Mediterranean, German and South Tyrolean, and breakfast covers vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free without making a production of it.
Family rooms are available, though the spa is the reason people come. If you want the best spa hotel in Alpe di Siusi, this is it.

Seiser Alm Urthaler in Compaccio
This is the first hotel in the Alps built entirely from solid wood. No chemicals anywhere in the construction, which sounds like a brochure line until you walk into the lobby and notice the smell, or rather what the smell isn’t.
It sits at 1,850 m (6,070 ft) with two pools, a sauna and a Turkish bath, glass en-suite bathrooms, a fireplace in the bar, and summer hiking trails that start outside the door. Dogs are welcome for a nightly fee, which makes it the pick if you’re bringing one.
Of all the hotels in Alpe di Siusi, this is the one that feels most like the place it’s standing in.

Hotel Steger-Dellai in Saltria
At 1,900 m (6,230 ft) on the Saltria side, this is the highest of the ten and the one pointed most squarely at the Sciliar. The sun terrace does the rest.
Inside there’s a proper Tyrolean stube, the wood-panelled room with a ceramic stove that every South Tyrolean hotel wishes it had, plus a spa, a gym and family rooms. The restaurant runs South Tyrolean and international, with gluten-free and vegan options at breakfast, and there’s an airport shuttle if you’d rather not drive. Location rated 9.8.
Saltria is 30 minutes by road from Siusi and Castelrotto, so this is a stay-put hotel rather than a base. That’s the appeal.

Hotel Schmung in Compaccio
Family-run, right on the ski slope at 1,811 m (5,942 ft), and about 10 minutes on foot from Compaccio, where most of the plateau’s trails begin. There’s a free shuttle if you’d rather not do those 10 minutes at the end of a long day.
The wellness center has a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, a sensory shower and a relaxation room with water beds. Breakfast runs to homemade cakes and a gluten-free option. Parking is free and there’s a garage for bikes, which the cyclists in the reviews are notably happy about.
A bus stop sits 50 m (165 ft) away with services to Bolzano, Bressanone and Merano. For hikers who want to be on the trails before the first cable car arrives, this is the Alpe di Siusi hotel we’d book first.

Hotel Gstatsch on the Meadow
The one that solves the family problem. Family rooms with balconies and mountain views, an indoor pool with a view out of it, a spa, a steam room and a fitness room, free parking, and a kitchen that does vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free without a fuss.
It sits out on the meadow at Seiser-Alm-Weg, about 4 km (2.5 miles) from the Sciliar massif, with the plateau on three sides of it.
Pets are allowed here too, which combined with the family rooms makes it the easiest booking of the ten if you’re arriving with children, a dog, or both. If you’re after a family hotel in Alpe di Siusi that doesn’t charge 5-star rates for the privilege, start here.

Sporthotel Floralpina in Saltria
This one has its own ski lift. Not nearby, not a shuttle to one: its own, with ski-to-door access from the Floralpina slopes, which in winter is about as good as the logistics get.
Rooms are natural wood panelling with balconies, satellite TV and bathrobes and slippers waiting in the bathroom. The wellness center has a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath and an indoor pool with a whirlpool, and there are two pools in total. The restaurant does South Tyrolean and classic Italian, served on the terrace when the weather allows.
Location rated 9.7. In summer it’s a quiet corner of the plateau; in winter it’s one of the best-placed hotels in Alpe di Siusi, full stop.

Saltria, Your Alpine Experience, in Saltria
Three pools. On a plateau where hotels count theirs in ones, this 4-star has three, plus a sauna, a hot tub and a Turkish bath.
It sits at the foot of the Seiser Alm about 200 m (660 ft) from the Florian ski lift, with family rooms, room service and a restaurant that recent guests single out. Breakfast is a buffet with cold cuts, cheeses and eggs; lunch and dinner run local and international.
Siusi and Castelrotto are both about 30 minutes away by road, so you’re committed once you’re up. Location rated 9.7, and the pools are the reason to pick it over its neighbours.

Paradiso Pure Living Vegan Hotel in Alpe di Siusi
At 2,020 m (6,630 ft) this is the highest hotel on the list, and the only fully vegan one on the plateau. Even if you eat meat seven days a week, the restaurant is worth the detour: plant-based, organic, and sourced from farms you can see from the terrace.
The building leans into art and sustainability rather than Tyrolean tradition, and the wellness center has several saunas and a steam bath. Family rooms, free parking, and a bar with a view that recent guests rate 9.8 for location.
It’s the most distinctive of the Alpe di Siusi hotels, and the one you’ll still be describing to people a year later.

The Best Hotel Near Alpe di Siusi, Down in the Valley
Hotel Scherlin in Ortisei
Five kilometers (3 miles) out of the center of Ortisei, in a position that gets the whole valley laid out in front of it, which is not what you expect from a hotel this reasonable.
Indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a gym that stays open 24 hours. Every room is Alpine-style with a balcony, a small table and two chairs on it, and family rooms are available. The breakfast buffet gets called exceptional often enough in the reviews to believe it.
Pets are allowed, and from here the Mont Sëuc gondola puts you on the plateau in about 10 minutes. Location rated 9.5. If you want a hotel near Alpe di Siusi rather than on it, this is the one.

Alpe di Siusi Hotels FAQs
What is the best hotel in Alpe di Siusi?
The best hotel in Alpe di Siusi depends on what you want from the plateau. For luxury it is COMO Alpina Dolomites at Compaccio, a 5-star with two pools and a glass front facing the Sciliar. For the spa it is ADLER Alpe, whose location recent guests rate a flat 10.0. For hikers it is Hotel Schmung, family-run and about 10 minutes on foot from where the trails start.
What is the most romantic hotel in Alpe di Siusi?
The most romantic hotel in Alpe di Siusi is COMO Alpina Dolomites at Compaccio: a 5-star with an outdoor pool looking across the meadow, a full spa and a glass facade pointed at the Sciliar, and a location recent guests rate 9.8. ADLER Alpe runs it close, with an infinity pool, an open-air bath and a restaurant the reviews describe as modern and romantic. Both empty out the moment the last cable car goes down, which is most of the appeal.
Which hotels in Alpe di Siusi are pet-friendly?
Four hotels in Alpe di Siusi take pets. Seiser Alm Urthaler at Compaccio allows dogs on request for a nightly fee. Hotel Gstatsch allows pets and charges may apply. Hotel Schmung allows them on request, again with possible charges. Down in Ortisei, Hotel Scherlin allows pets too. Confirm when you book, because the plateau hotels have few rooms and the pet-friendly ones go first.
What is the most family-friendly hotel in Alpe di Siusi?
The most family-friendly hotel in Alpe di Siusi is Hotel Gstatsch, which has family rooms with balconies and mountain views, an indoor pool, a spa, free parking, and vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options in the restaurant, and takes pets as well. Saltria, your Alpine experience is the other strong family pick, with three swimming pools and family rooms, 200 m (660 ft) from the Florian ski lift.
What is the best spa hotel in Alpe di Siusi?
The best spa hotel in Alpe di Siusi is ADLER Alpe at Compaccio, with an infinity pool, an open-air bath, a sauna, a hot tub, a steam room, a gym and yoga classes, in a 5-star with ski-to-door access. COMO Alpina Dolomites has two pools and a full wellness center, and Sporthotel Floralpina in Saltria has a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath and an indoor pool with a whirlpool.
Should you stay on Alpe di Siusi itself or down in the valley?
Stay on Alpe di Siusi itself if you want the plateau to yourself at either end of the day, because the day visitors leave on the last cable car, and because hotels up there come with a road access permit that gets around the daily 9:00 am to 5:00 pm closure. Stay in the valley villages of Siusi, Castelrotto, Fiè or Ortisei if you want more hotels to choose from, more restaurants, better value and a village to come back to in the evening. Both work. They are just different trips.
How far in advance should you book a hotel in Alpe di Siusi?
Book a hotel in Alpe di Siusi several months ahead for July, August and the ski season. The plateau is protected, so there are only a few dozen properties on it and no new ones are coming, which makes the supply unusually tight for a destination this well known. Shoulder season, late May to June and late September to October, is both easier to book and arguably the better time to be there.
Are there apartments or Airbnbs in Alpe di Siusi rather than hotels?
There are apartments and self-catering places around Alpe di Siusi, but very few on the plateau itself, where almost everything is a hotel. The apartments, agriturismi and guesthouses are concentrated in the valley villages: Siusi, Castelrotto, Fiè and Ortisei. If you want a kitchen and more space, search the valley; if you want to wake up on the meadow, you are booking a hotel.

Pick Your Side of the Cable Car
Up top for the silence, down below for the choice. Whichever you pick, book it earlier than feels necessary, because there simply aren’t many beds on this mountain and that’s rather the point of it.
