Deposit: a 20% deposit secures your place when you book.
Balance: due 60 days before your tour starts, or 30 days before for trips of 3 days or less.
Refunds if you cancel: 90% back 80 days or more before departure, 80% back 79 to 60 days before, 50% back 59 to 30 days before, and no refund 29 days or less before.

Travel insurance: strongly recommended, including cancellation cover from the day you book.
These terms apply to our three Slovenia hiking tours: Best of Juliana Trail and Alpe-Adria Trail, Slovenia (Self-Guided), Mountains & Lakes of Slovenia Hut to Hut Hiking Tour (Self-Guided) and Guided Hiking in the Slovenian Alps. Monkeys and Mountains sells these tours, and a fully licensed Slovenian tour operator and travel agency runs them on the ground and takes your booking. In these terms, “the tour operator”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that operator, the company named on your booking confirmation and invoice. “You”, “your”, “traveler” and “client” mean everyone named on the booking, including anyone added or substituted later.
Please read these terms carefully, because they set out your rights and obligations and ours. When you ask us to confirm your booking, we take it that you’ve read these booking conditions and agree to them. They apply to the trip arrangements you book, whether directly or through an agent selling these tours. “Trip”, “booking”, “contract” and “arrangements” mean those trip arrangements, and “departure” means the date they start.
Slovenia Tour Payments: Deposit and Balance
- All prices are in euros (EUR).
- At the time of booking, a 20% deposit is required.
- The balance is due 60 days before the tour departure. For shorter trips of 3 days or less, the balance is due 30 days before departure.
Your booking is confirmed when your deposit reaches our account, and you’ll get a written confirmation then. Confirming availability alone does not confirm your booking. If the deposit doesn’t arrive within the agreed time, the booking is considered cancelled. If the balance doesn’t arrive within the time set out above, the booking is also considered cancelled and payments made are not returned. Where you book online without a prior confirmation of availability, an automatic acknowledgment is not a confirmation, and online bookings may be cancelled within 48 hours if there are availability issues.
Please check your invoice as soon as you receive it and tell us right away if anything on it, or on any other document, looks wrong or incomplete. We may correct errors in quoted prices at any time before your trip is confirmed, and we’ll tell you about any error we’re aware of and the correct price when you book.
Slovenia Tour Cancellation Policy and Refunds
- 80 days or more before departure: 90% refund. 10% is kept for administration costs and bank fees.
- 79 to 60 days before departure: 80% refund.
- 59 to 30 days before departure: 50% refund.
- 29 days or less before departure: no refund.
If you need to cancel, tell us by letter or email as soon as possible. The booking holder or the group leader can cancel, and the cancellation takes effect on the day we receive it in writing. We strongly recommend cancellation insurance.
We may cancel a trip at any time if unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control force us to, such as force majeure, where the consequences couldn’t have been avoided even with all due care. In that case we’ll provide a safe alternative activity. We aren’t responsible for incidental expenses or consequential losses you may have incurred as a result of the booking.
This cancellation policy applies to individual bookings and private groups of up to 8 travelers. For bigger groups, get in touch and we’ll do our best to suit your plans.
Changing the Dates of a Self-Guided Slovenia Tour
Date changes are only possible on self-guided tours, and you need to ask at least 60 days before your original start date. These rebooking fees apply per booking:
- €100 for tours of 1 to 4 days
- €200 for tours of 5 to 8 days
- €300 for tours of 9 to 12 days
- €400 for tours of 13 days or longer
Changes to Your Confirmed Trip
We may make changes to the reserved itinerary. The itinerary is a guide we’ll do our best to follow, but it may need to change at short notice because of circumstances outside our control, such as bad weather or road conditions, force majeure, the operating conditions set by owners and operators of accommodations, facilities and transport, or group dynamics. As far as reasonably possible your itinerary will stay the same in content. If weather conditions lead to extra costs such as accommodations, transport and meals, those are shared by mutual agreement.
Travel Insurance for Your Slovenia Hiking Tour
You need adequate personal and health insurance for your trip, covering the activities involved and loss of property, illness, injury or death. It’s important that it covers cancellation costs from the date you book, as well as medical expenses including evacuation and repatriation. It’s your responsibility to make sure the cover you buy suits your needs. Our Travel Insurance Finder helps you compare policies for a hiking trip.
Health and Fitness
By booking, you confirm that you’re in good health, physically and mentally able to take part in all aspects of the trip, and not aware of any reason you may be unsuited to it or likely to suffer illness or injury during it, given its challenges. If you can’t confirm this, or you have a medical condition or disability that may affect your trip, contact us before you book so we can help you decide whether the trip suits you. If information you give us turns out to be materially incorrect or incomplete, we may cancel your booking or end your participation in the trip, depending on when we find out. In that case payments are not refunded and we aren’t responsible for any resulting costs.
Passports and Visas for Slovenia
The passport and visa requirements to enter Slovenia, which is in the European Union, depend on your nationality and may change at any time for reasons beyond our control. Each traveler is responsible for checking that they have the right travel documents. We aren’t liable for any costs that arise if a traveler is refused entry to a country on the trip.
Acknowledgment of Risk
By booking, you acknowledge and accept the following.
- These trips, run by the tour operator and its related and affiliated companies, employees, guides, instructors, drivers, officers, directors and agents, are designed to take you off the beaten path, to places where facilities, infrastructure, safety and other standards may be simpler than, and different from, those at home.
- The trips involve physical activity that can be demanding depending on your condition, and carry a risk of serious personal injury, including permanent disability and death, from accident, illness or the actions of other people. Medical facilities may be hard to reach and may be basic. You may meet environmental hazards such as falling and rolling rocks, sudden storms, lightning, blizzards, avalanches and flash floods, and you could become lost or separated from your drivers, guides or instructors.
- On self-guided trips, and on guided trips when the guide isn’t with you, you’re fully responsible for your own safety, whatever information you were given by office staff, in the self-guided materials or in a guide’s instructions. That information could be wrong, inaccurate or miscommunicated.
- You may be exposed to bacteria, viruses and diseases that are rare or unknown at home, and you may meet dangerous wildlife. There are also risks of theft, loss of or damage to property. Some services on the trip, including lodging, transport, food and local activities, come from independent suppliers the tour operator doesn’t control.
- You’re ultimately responsible for your own safety. After an accident or rescue, medical treatment may not be available right away. Guides work hard to keep you safe but they aren’t infallible: they may not know a participant’s fitness or abilities, and they may misjudge the weather, the elements or the terrain. Decisions by guides, staff and participants are often made in remote or wilderness settings, on imprecise and momentary judgments that can be wrong, and shouldn’t later be treated as fault.
- You confirm that neither you nor any guests or children in your care have a known medical condition or disability that is incompatible with safely taking part in the activities you’ve chosen, and you agree to tell a staff member about any such condition so reasonable accommodations can be considered.
Limitation of Liability and Release
You’re aware of the risks involved and you’re taking the trip voluntarily. While the tour operator takes every precaution for your safety, it can’t be held liable for loss or damage to any person or property resulting from taking part in the trip. You understand and have carefully considered the risks of a trip like this, you accept them, and you take full responsibility for any loss, injury or damage to you, your family, friends or dependents arising from your participation or theirs. You hold your own insurance suited to your needs for that loss, injury or damage.
In return for being accepted on the trip, you agree not to sue the tour operator, and you release and discharge it, on behalf of yourself, your parents, heirs, friends, assigns and estate, from all liability for economic loss and physical or mental injury, direct or indirect, arising in connection with the trip. That includes, without limitation, permanent disability or death, emotional distress, loss of services, financial support, aid, consortium or companionship, and damage to or loss of property, in each case even if caused in whole or in part by the conduct, including negligence, of the tour operator.
You also agree to indemnify the tour operator against claims for loss, injury or damage made by your family members, friends, dependents or heirs, or by third parties whom you, your estate, your family members or dependents have sued, where damages are recovered from those third parties and they obtain full or partial indemnification from the tour operator. If you know of a medical condition or disability that may affect safe participation or enjoyment of the trip, and of a reasonable accommodation for you or the people in your care, you agree to raise it with the tour operator’s staff.
Mountain weather is very unpredictable, and most weather forecasts, especially on phones, are of limited accuracy. This acknowledgment of risk, release and indemnity binds all members of your family, your dependents, estate, heirs, successors and legal representatives. Any claim or dispute arising from it, from the trip, or from your relationship with the tour operator will be resolved exclusively in the courts of the Republic of Slovenia under Slovenian law. If the tour operator, or anyone acting for it, has to incur legal fees and costs to enforce this agreement, you agree to pay them.
Complaints
If you have a problem during your trip, tell your guide or trip designer and the supplier of the service right away, and put any verbal complaint in writing as soon as possible. If it isn’t resolved to your satisfaction, contact the tour operator using the details you were given for your trip, with full details and a phone number. If you’re still not satisfied, write to the tour operator within 7 days of the end of your trip with your booking reference and full details. If a complaint can’t be resolved, it will be settled by the courts of the Republic of Slovenia under Slovenian law.
Photos and Videos
Photos and video may be taken during the trip, and clients and guides are encouraged to take pictures. By sending photos and videos to the tour operator, you allow them to be used for promotion worldwide, on websites and social media, without payment. If you have concerns or would rather not be included, say so before the trip.
