I love board games in general. But as a travel lover, finding board games that encompass travel and give me the opportunity to learn new things is a bonus. Some of the games that I have chosen are not directly related to travel but your travel knowledge would really help you play them. On the other hand, some of the games are just a fun way to experience a new place in a new way and maybe just spark a little adventure in you.

12 Great Travel Related Board Games

Ticket to Ride: Europe

This wonderful classic is always a winner. This new installment of the classic has an addition of sea routes that complement the traditional railway lines of the classic version. Players collect cards of various types (trains and ships) that enable them to claim railway and sea routes on a nicely illustrated double-sided board, featuring the world map on one side and the great lakes of North America on the other. It is easy to learn and a quick play that the whole family will love. This board game is the perfect way to get you excited for your next travel adventure.

Monopoly Here & Now: US Edition

Monopoly is a game for the ages. And with so many different ones to choose from, you will get to know every part of the world before  you know it.

I love Monopoly, especially the fact that there are so many different versions. My favourites are the travel additions though. In this US version of the travel Monopoly’s, players race around the board visiting cities and collecting passport stamps. The first person to fill their passport wins. The game board features some fantastic cities and will let you virtually travel one of the biggest countries in the world. This is the perfect board game for the travel buff. If you love this one make sure to look out for Monopoly additions from other countries in the world.

Trekking The National Parks

This travel board game is just what you need if you love the outdoors. What more could you ask for than exploring your favourite national parks from home.

It’s no secret that I am an avid hiker so when I found a board game that lets you experience the US National Parks in a fun way, I didn’t give it a second thought before ordering it from Amazon. The game lets you compete for points by claiming park cards and collecting trail stones as you race across the country. Each park card offers an interesting fact as well as a great image. It is the best way to experience the outdoors from the comfort of your home. It is a great family game and may even get your family members into hiking if you’re lucky.

Scotland Yard

Much like Clue, Scotland Yard has players chasing Mister X, an escaped criminal mastermind who is hiding in London. Players are detectives from Scotland Yard and use travel tickets to chase down Mister X by taxi, bus, and underground. Discover iconic sites such as Picadilly Circus and the banks of the River Thames. Travel through London and discover what the city has to offer, all from home. This board game is a great way to get new ideas if you want to travel to London. I know it helped me find a few hidden gems before my last trip there.

Jaipur

This travel related board game is the perfect choice if you love India.

This game is all about trading. I personally love the fact that it reminds me of markets in India and really does make you feel like a trader in Jaipur. The aim is to earn more than your opponent and to become the official merchant of the Maharaja. This is a great 2 player game and will keep you entertained with strategy and fun for at least an hour. This is also a great travel board game as it is compact and easy to carry.

7 Wonders

This is a great strategy game that can be played with the whole family. In this game, you are the leader of one of the 7 great cities of the Ancient world. You have to gather resources and develop commercial routes and affirm your military supremacy. You do everything from building your own city and erecting architectural wonders to managing military campaigns. This is one of the best ways to experience travel through a board game.

Mapominoes Europe

This fantastic game for 2-5 players is fun and easy to learn. It is also a great educative game for kids. It is like dominoes but with maps. Build a map by connecting countries that share a common border. Race to be the first player to play all your country cards. Use strategy to keep your opponents from finishing before you.

The London Board Game

Love London? I do too and that is why I loe playing this travel board game.

This classic game is all about racing through London’s legendary Underground. The aim is to be the first commuter to travel to each of your assigned landmarks. Navigate station closures and hazards in your way. This is a great 2-6 player game that can be played by the whole family. This is a great travel-related board game that is a great way to experience London.

Lost Cities

Lost cities is the best way to bring out the adventurer in you. I always love this game since it makes me feel like Indiana Jones, in the game of course.

Embark on an adventure to find 5 lost cities. Each player guides a team of explorers on expeditions. Cards are played and discarded by each player that will decide how far they can advance. It’s all about strategy in this game and knowing when and what to play. This is a great game whether you are playing with 2 players or more. This board game will allow you to travel in an adventurous and fun way.

Forbidden Desert

This is a great strategy game that will have you working with your teammates rather than against them. The aim is to recover a legendary flying machine buried deep in the ruins of an ancient desert city.

Jamaica

This game can be played with up to 6 players and is all about piracy and racing. Sail around Jamaica as fast as possible while gathering goods, gold, and food while sailing the high seas. The World Game

This game can be enjoyed by the whole family and is a great way to have fun and learn more about the world. The aim of the game is to compete with world facts. A bigger country beats a smaller country. There are 4 possible challenges; flags location, capital cities, and continents. This is a really fun trivia game.
